Not Your Momma’s Toast

Because toast should never be served vanilla

You know those mornings…

When you have a terrible sweet tooth craving, but you also want to start your day off right with something healthy, but kinda want to just treat yourself? This loaded toast has been my go-to for years for that very reason!

I started making this epic breakfast treat when I first went to college and was living on my own. I’m pretty sure it started one morning by looking in the pantry and throwing whatever I had on a piece of bread and saying, “Yep, good enough,” -if there was one thing you could count on me always having in college, it was bread, peanut butter, and bananas. Thus, the loaded toast was born!

This toast creation has everything you could want in your breakfast: Healthy, whole grain bread to fuel your day, peanut -or almond- butter for some protein, fruit, and just enough sweets for your inner 5-year-old. So, without further ramblings, enjoy this epic deliciousness!

What You’ll Need

  • Preferred Bread
  • Peanut Butter/Almond Butter/Whatever Nut Butter Floats Your Boat
  • Half a Banana [Sliced]
  • Ground Flax Seed
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Honey

[Note: this is the list for fully loaded toast; typically, my everyday toast consists of just the bread, almond butter, and banana]

  1. Toast bread to desired level of toastiness
  2. Assemble the basics: spread on your almond butter and layer down your banana slices [ProTip: if you’re using flax seed, try sprinkling it on top of the spread, under the bananas. Much less messy this way!
  3. Top with chocolate chips and honey

And Enjoy!
